happy birthday, my beloved home

Happy Canada Day!!!!
Although this isn't Canada's national anthem, it reminds me so much of my country and of campfires in the summer( and it drives my brother-in-law insane...once you've heard it, you can't get it out for a minimum of two days, like some crazy-ass patriotic chant. Your brain happily sings away while you are trying to sleep....Double bonus.)

Silver Birch

Land of the silver birch home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose wanders at will
Blue lake and rocky shore, Iwill return once more.
Boom-diddy-boom-boom, boom-diddy-boom-boom, Boom-diddy-boom-boom, bo-oo-oom
High on a rocky ledge I'll build my wigwam,
Close by the water's edge, silent and still;
Blue lake and rocky shore,I will return once more.
Boom-diddy-boom-boom, boom-diddy-boom-boom, Boom-diddy-boom-boom, bo-oo-oom
My heart grows sick for thee here in the lowlands
My heart cries out for thee, hills of the north;
Blue lake and rocky shore,I will return once more.
Boom-diddy-boom-boom, boom-diddy-boom-boom, Boom-diddy-boom-boom, bo-oo-oom
Land of the silver birch, home of the beaver,
Where still the mighty moose wanders at will;
Blue lake and rocky shore,I will return once more.
Boom-diddy-boom-boom, boom-diddy-boom-boom, Boom-diddy-boom-boom, bo-oo-oom
Boom-diddy-boom-boom, boom-diddy-boom-boom, Boom-diddy-boom-boom, bo-oo-oom

I can't recall where I learned this song, but I agree that it is special and it makes my heart happy and proud.

What a beautiful, wonderful and amazing country we live in. :)

Happy Canada Day to you and your little ones!

Love this! What a wonderful post! I remember singing this song at Girl Guide camp - with hand signs that go with it.

I'm one day late, but I love that song. It makes me think of Girl Guide camp and marshmallows. And it IS surprisingly catchy.

Hope you had a great Canada Day!

my mum used to sing it.. we sang it in brownies and guides...
than i think someone told me it was racist..

but I dunno about that-

I have a warm spot for it- reminds me of long car rides and mum singing to pass time..

we are blessed without a doubt momma- we can raise our children in a loving place and call this *home* with pride!

proud to be your neighbor-

the word verification-

thanks for posting, i'm always stuck after the first verse and it gets a little repetitive when singing kids to sleep!
