multiple personalities

I have wondered for some time if I should break up my blog into the various genres in my writing; Waldorf-unschooling homeschooling blog, grief and loss blog, crafty blog and seemingly insane hilarity blog. I've worried that I've bored some people to tears with the schooling/crafty projects. That I've upset others with my tales of woe and loneliness. And disturbed others with my diatribes regarding various bodily functions (evidently I still possess the same sense of humour I had when I was 5.)
But, I have come to a conclusion. Too often the media creates 'characters' that are fully formed and one-sided. They don't evolve or step out of the box without being portrayed as 'crazy freakshow weirdos'.
I am not a character. I am a real person. I have sides and moods and moments. I strive to change and grow as I 'grow-up'. This whole blog is a testament to real life and the changes in moods, moments, and life that we encounter. It's me. I have to try to accept myself as I am so I am going to accept my blog as it is. Flawed, fearful and even sometimes, funny (at least to me).
Thanks for following along as I crawl, run, and skip through this journey we all call life....I'll be following along to yours as well.

I agree with keeping it all in one place. I think we are all multi-faceted, and confining yourself in that way is sort of limiting. What happens if you want to write about something that doesn't 'fit' anywhere?

It also makes it harder for us to follow along with you if we have to search around. Which, of course, is why we're here in the first place.

I'm glad you're keeping it all in one place. Though I started reading yours, Matt's, and Candice's blogs because of the way you wrote about grief, I stayed because of all the other things the three of you have taught me about (photography, music, crafting, etc.) Just to be clear, Matt's blog taught me more about the first two things, for sure not crafting. I can't quite see Matt crafting....the thought of it makes me giggle, though. Anyway, keep being you!

Humans are multi-faceted, no reason our blogs wouldn't be a reflection of that! Plus, the 5 year old humor is what keeps people coming back! ;)

I like crafts but don't have time or patience to do them with my wriggly, unfocused preschool children. I confess that I don't surf Etsy for interesting homemade crafts, but after seeing the nesting dolls you got for Liv, I might start. I came to your blog through Matt's, but have had my world expanded by your craft projects and schooling projects. I am learning what I should be doing/will be able to do with my daughter when she gets a bit older -- sewing a simple dress together, dissecting a fish, painting nesting dolls, etc. If you separated your blog, I would have missed out on all of these neat things. Plus, I like the 5-yr-old humor, too. :-)

i like it all and have learned a great deal from you over the past year - about a variety of things. that's precisely why i keep coming back.

we're all more than one identity. no one i know fits into only one 'box' or category. i still try to shove all kinds of people into those boxes, but feel we'd all (me included, obviously!) be better off if we kept this in mind when we looked at others.

love your insight!

Just remember what Dr. Seuss says "Be who you are, those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind". Keep your blog the way you want it. I love the crafting sections - I've even tried a few with my daughter. I am in awe of any one that can home school their children, for me, if I tried it my daughter would be dumber than a box of rocks. I laughed out loud yesterday reading about your "excess air" problems. Your grief is your own and how you handle it is how you'd do it, not what someone else wants.
Keep it all together, and the ones that don't want to read about all of your life, they can find someone else to read.

Oops, I messed up the Dr. Seuss quote, it should be "Be who you are and say what you mean, those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

So glad you're keeping it all in one place. It's YOU. It's your blog and it is for you to talk about your life - the good, bad, beautiful, lonely...whatever you're feeling. Don't feel like you have to categorize or cater to anyone. :)

Oh my gosh! In my day-to-day accounts and blogging moments, I have had many different aspects of my personality shine. Unfortunately, lately, I had someone stop being my "online friend" because they said I was "unstable"...HUH?
So if I post one week about a sadness in the family and then post the next week about something good that happened, that means I am manic-depressive?

I don't get it.

Thanks for your honesty. It's refreshing.

Multiple personalities are fine with me.

And as the saying goes, I used to be schizophrenic, but now I'm in two minds about it.(I'll swear one day this black British humour is going to get me into trouble, but for now at least I'll simply throw myself upon the mercy of the court).

Jackie,
I just discovered your blog and I want to thank you for your complete honesty. Don't change a thing! My husband died suddenly 4 weeks tomorrow and in this early stage of struggling to grasp that he's really gone and trying to figure out how to keep life going for my sons and I, I appreciate being able to read your wise words. They help me realize that I'm not going crazy and we might just survive this nightmare. Thank you.
