my little man

Since Liv has started school and the ensuing drama that has occurred, I've realized that I don't write much about my little monkey. Tonight as I was laying him down to bed, he asked me to draw on his back. It made me realize what a big talker he's becoming and focus on how hilarious he is. He sat there and said,
"jraw a big twuk, mama." (Draw a big truck, mama." for all you people who can't decipher two year old.)
*he lays down....sits back up*
"A big wed twuck....a big wed djump twuck" ("a big red dump truck" complete with big fish lips and a tonne of spit)
*lays down and up again at lightning speed*
"And an egskabater. A blue one. A blue Daddy egskabter.....wit a twactor...and cows...and BRIAR in it!" (I do wonder some times how he talks this way. I try to pronounce some of these words the way he does and it never works. He just sound so sweet."
*lays down. up again.*
"a red white twactor wit cows and Briar. Otay?"
This went on for about ten minutes. I could have stopped it. I could have said no. That it was enough. But I couldn't. He was so earnest and excited. So vocal. So articulate.
I am in awe of the little boy that he is morphing into. He is so like Jeff in someways that it simultaneously makes me extremely pleased and so very sad. He loves to laugh. He loves to make little two year old jokes. He thinks tooting is hilarious. So is burping. He is gentle with animals and loves babies.
His big sister is his hero. I think he'd follow her to the end of the Earth while listening to her chatter and holding her hand. Only Liv can make things better for him sometimes. They do fight occasionally...sometimes, often. But they forget about it quickly and are rushing off to play 'dolphins' or 'birds' or 'Little House on the Prairie' before you know it. He is a quiet thinker. I'll immersed in something and I look over to find him with an intense look of concentration while he examines a dandelion seed head. He's found his 'voice' lately and will yell (or scream) at the top of his lungs to express his displeasure. I think I take his easy-going nature for granted sometimes.
I am so lucky to have such sweet, amazing little teachers guiding me through this parenting thing. I am learning so much. I only wish I could learn it faster so I would know that I wasn't causing any permanent mental distress!

He is sooooo precious! And toots and burps ARE pretty funny. What wonderful blessings you have there with your 2 kiddos. All you have to do is look at them to know you are on the right track with them. You are NOT permanently damaging them. You are an amazing mom! I know its hard to see it when you're living it, but we can all plainly see how lucky those kids are to have you!

Hi from one of Matts creeps! I have been reading your blog for a while now and just wanted to let you know I think you are totally amazing. You are a wonderful mum who is doing a great job, the love you have for your children is tangible. They are so sweet with such amazing personalities that come through so strongly in your posts. I hope things become easier for all of you and that you find comfort in knowing stranger/creeps are thinking of you and sending warm and loving thoughts your way.

Isn't that 2 year old stage just the best? Well, most of the time? I often find myself wondering when my kids became little people as it seems like overnight! As they start to find their voices and their words - I could listen for hours! Smiling and giggling and sitting in sheer amazement at what comes out of their mouths! My son follows his big sister around too - they hate to be separated...
Keep enjoying these little moments Jackie - they are what matter the most!

what a great boy you have! (and girl too). you sound like an awesome fun mom and i could learn a lot from your patience with them.
i also have a 2 year old and i understood everything you typed, even without the translations - isn't that budding language a wonderous stage to watch?

what a talker he is. i was happy when my 2 year old said "daddy did dis" yesterday. she's my one word queen, but that's changing fast. although the school change is difficult, it's great that you get some nice 1:1 time with your lil man. i love the pick of him with the dandelion.

That is really sweet. I played Little House on the Prairie for HOURS when I was little. I could rarely get my brother to play along, though. It's wonderful that they are so close.

I so enjoyed hearing about Briar this morning. Our children have so much to teach us. Without them, life just wouldn't be so much fun! I love that you took the time to write as Briar speaks, and your photos are truly amazing! Do you have an address or p.o. box where I can send something? I'm Matt's sorta cousin, Barb. I'm relatively harmless : )

Jackie,
How fun to read about Briar and the joy he brings you! I laughed when I read your comment about being concerned about causing permanent damage. I figure it's a given that I'm screwing my children up somehow. Rather than dwell on it, I simply remind them that they need to do well with their studies so they can someday have a good paying job and then they'll have the funds necessary to pay for therapy to undo any damage I might be causing! It might be a cop-out on my part, but I like to think of it as teaching them to take some responsbility for their own future. :)
Wishing you a great day!

I could have written this word for word .. my little boy just turned 3 and I have been thinking all these same things. They are just such amazing little creatures. My daughter is 16 months old and NO ONE can make her laugh like her big brother.

You are doing a wonderful job with both of them.

Namaste.

He seems like such a sweet pea! And is it bad that I find tooting and burping hilarious as well and I'm 29 years old? :) Oh well.
